LLM

November 2017 | CURRENT STUDENT

Uppers

The environment of the University is always vibrant, professors are excellent, you will learn a lot and the LLM group is truly international.

Downers

The law school should have more personal attention to the LLM students and provide more updated information on all their options.

Comments

Best Law School in Miami, do not hesitate to go study in UM if you go to Miami.

Faculty and Students are great, very helpful and friendly. Also, living in Miami is not too shabby.

Downers

Facilities are dated and ugly. Need to keep undergraduate students out of the law library.

The classmates are not competitive and everyone tries to help each other out. The faculty are generally very willing to help.

Downers

The administration is disorganized and don't seem to put much effort into increasing the school's ranking or your job.

Comments

If you want to work in Miami, get a scholarship, and believe you can be in the top 10%. Miami is a good choice.

amazing connections. This program will get you where you want to be if you plan to practice in miami.

Downers

some of the professors as adjuncts don't necessarily prepare a curriculum that is comprehensive in that practice area.

Comments

Go to the open house, meet the professors and see for yourself if the program is for you.

In my opinion, class size is not a factor in the quality of law education. The socratic method is widely used at UM Law. The professors are very personable and available to students for questions or simply to converse.

Quality of Life

The campus facilities are excellent, and the campus itself is beautiful. I love living in Miami. I spent many days reading on the beach!

Admissions

I would not say that the admission process is any different than other law schools.

All professors have their own style. One of the advantages of Miami Law is its large size. Multiple professors will teach some of the same basic courses, making it easy for students to take classes that will help each individual learn best. Students are competitive but not at the expense of other students. One semester I lost all of my notes before finals, and I had several students send me their class notes.

Quality of Life

There are so many things that outweigh the expense of living in Miami. The campus is great and students are always in a good mood. The library is expansive and is one of my favorite study spots. People in the community always seem impressed with Miami Law students.

There is definitely the Socratic method during the first year. Some professors implement this during the upper class years as well. I was able to spend an entire summer traveling abroad with the study abroad program. I took two classes and earned 6 credits that summer. The school also has various clinic and externship opportunities.

Quality of Life

I have been extremely happy at the university. It is a great place to go to school and is not as stressful as many law schools. Students are friendly, and I have really enjoyed getting to know people here. I have enjoyed this schooling experience more than college or high school.

Admissions

There was one application essay and the LSAT. I also applied and was accepted to the joint degree program in Marine Affairs and Policy. I had to submit a separate application for the other school within the university. This required an essay and GRE.
